Does anyone know which manufacturer makes a matte blue finished prefit barrel that most closely resembles the factory matte finish?

Off hand no one to my knowledge. The barrel would have to be cm steel then it would have to get hot blued.

If you go SS on the barrel than your only option is to get it cerakoted but that’s not the blued finish you are looking for.

We’ve done a couple of runs of prefits but nobody has asked for cm. If a blued cm barrel is what you want I would just order a barrel and have it fitted up to your gun and I would suggest Glen Rock Bluing in WY to do the bluing for you.

You don’t say what contour, caliber and would be good to know as well.

Thanks for the info Frank.

I'm looking at a varmint contour in .308, probably 24". My rifle currently has a fluted 20" threaded bbl.....I'm not crazy about the length, the flutes, or the threads . It's a great rifle, shoot well, and gives me no trouble, just can't seem to get past the look.

If you go SS, you can also go with Nitriding. Excellent satin-matte coloring. And much better than Cerekote.

If you're looking to get rid of the 20" barrel I might know someone.

SS with a matte (blasted) finish and then hit it with some flat black spray paint. Simple, easy, effective, and if down the road it gets buggered up you just spray on a fresh coat. A matte clear coat is optional for extra durability.

Blueing is so, well...20th century...
I get it, for restoration of a classic. But fact is, in comparison to modern coatings like Cerakote- it's highly inferior and requires maintenance/oiling periodically or it can rust.
Very few shops do it anymore because of hazards and environmental concerns/safety compliance combined with lack of demand.

Alumahyde has always worked out well for me.

+1

I use the Rust Oleum Camouflage Ultra flat black on Savage matte barrels also. Really helps with keeping rust off.

well salt bath nitriding works well in a black finish.
the surface is based on how well the bbl is finished to begin with.
rough will be almost mil flat finish, a bit of polish and more like semi flat.
really polish it up and it will look like a top line bright blue(black).
paint and cerokote are just too thick. salt bath has no measurable thickness

ER Shaw does. They did a heavy sporter 26” 6mm Rem for me last month. It matches very well to my 110.

I believe NSS (Northland Shooter Supply) sells Shilen barrels that are blued.
