Been shooting .223 AR15s and decided to build a bolt gun. Ordered a target action and 1 in 12 Shilen barrel from NSS. Got the action but the barrel is taking a long time so called NSS again and got a 1 in 7 Shilen that was in stock. Got an XLR Evolution chassis to put the action/barrel in. XLR is getting rid of the Gen 2 Element so got one of those for when the 1 in 12 barrel show up.

Took it to the range a couple of times so far to test N140 and Varget. Seems to shoot pretty well. All 5 shots at 100 yards with Berger 77 OTM.

Looks like a shooter. What action/trigger?

Looks like a smoking node between 24.1 and 24.6 of n140.

It's the Savage target action with the red accutrigger blade.

Finally got the barrel I ordered from Shilen and a second Savage target action. They sent me a 14 twist instead of a 12 twist and it's a tight neck chamber. So I turned the necks on some Lapua brass and loaded them with AR Comp and Berger 52 flat bases. Then went to the range to break in the barrel and fire form the brass. Shot ten 5 shot groups at 100 yards after sighting in the scope. This thing shoots pretty well.

Always did like a good Chassis home brew !! Get that thing
out to 300 yards, and any chrono results if you have them.

Went to the range this morning to see how Berger 55 FBs work with this barrel. Loaded up new Lapua brass with AR Comp and shot 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Got a nice group in the .0s.

That's great! How long did you have to wait on the barrel?

It took 4 months. There's a .222 barrel I ordered about a month after this one so hopefully I'll get that one next month. I'm going to order another .223 barrel soon since it takes so long to get.

I'm waiting on one myself bought from NSS. 4 months is what I was told too.
I'd wait much longer for one that will shoot like the one you have. It's a keeper!

Are these actions trued blueprinted?

Well yes but what does that really mean. To me Blueprinted would bring everything back into a tolerance. So what are we shooting for. Concentric and perpendicular? Or a place where everything is at an optimum. I think that is a rarity within Savages facility. I think a person would be happy in most instances.

I read a pretty detailed article with videos direct release from savage showing what they do and they contrast it to their run of the mill mass produced actions. They essentially take mass produced actions and set x number aside and true all the surfaces, make sure the threads are as true and concentric to the chamber and bolt, trigger jobs etc.. it didn't show all their secrets but enough to know they are a cut above the standard mass produced recievers. I own a couple and you can definitely feel the difference

I admit they are nice but I never checked any of them to see how true everything is. All of them are smooth operating. Most I have had the bolt raceway to body was a better fit than all the other Savages. I also have a Varmint action timed and trued. It is very nice.
