I've never actually seen anyone explain how to swap a barrel on a Savage rifle, but it seems like everyone does it.

1st question - What tools do I need to properly switch barrels on my Savage 10 FP? Barrel vice? Action wrench? Go-no-go gauges? Barrel nut wrench?

2nd question - What are the steps to actually doing the swap assuming I have the proper tools?

3rd question - What caliber? I want a low recoil cartridge, say less than or equal to a muzzle braked 30. What about .223AI, .220 Swift, or .22-250?

Thanks ahead of time!

I'd recommend checking the articles. Everything you asked for is in detail there.

Here ya go.. It's all here somewhere

http://savageshooters.com/index.php?articleview=Savage%20Barrel%20Swapping

That covers questions 1 and 2, but for question 3 only you know what caliber you wanna go with.

With the group you just posted a few days ago, I wouldn't think you need a new barrel ;D

Ok, then an extra barrel.

It never hurts to have a few extra barrels for a rifle around, sometimes you stuble upon a killer dealer on another rifle/action and then you are set to have 2 rifles the way you want them.
