Thanks guys for the permission to enter site.
Found your Forum thanks to a desperate search for info on a Savage 840 bolt action 30 30 I got as a project gun.
I refinished the stock. took the bolt out and cleaned both that and the action.
Re-inserted the bolt, all was fine. The bolt would seat correctly,trigger worked correctly.
Pulled the bolt back, would eject shell.

Now the fun part: the bolt goes back, and back, right out of the receiver - every time..
For the life of me I can't figure out what I have messed up. Any suggestions?

First and foremost, welcome to the site.

Generally it's not a good idea to ask technical questions here in the Introduce Yourself board as it's far less likely to be seen and get answered than if it's posted in the appropriate firearm related board. Your Stevens 840 would fall into the Vintage category so that is the board you would want to post your question to.
