I am so new to Savage rifles that I don't even know the difference except thread size from the Inet. So, what size does an Axis have in .308? Need to know as I am going to make a switch-barrel utilizing a .308 as the base with barrels in 6.5 CM, .257 Roberts and 8mm. Any help will be greatly appreciated and , "Thank you" in advance. God Bless and shoot safe.

The Axis .308 is a small shank: https://savageshooters.com/content.php?127-Savage-Barrel-Shank-Sizes

Using a 308 chambered action allows you to rebarrel to 243, 223-250, 260, 6.5 Creedmoor, 358 Win, 257 Bob and possibly 7X57 and 8X57. All should work through the shorter magazine.

The 7x57 and 8x57 are a bit longer than the .308 (spec 3.071", 3.228" vs 2.800") and you may be limited to the bullets you can use in them. You might look at 7mm-08 and .338 Federal instead.

Otherwise it should work fine.

Yes, forgot to add 7mm/o8, a great round.
