I've been quietly stalking these forums for a few months and joined a little while ago because you all are very helpful for a bolt-gun noob like me. I got a Savage 10T-SR .308 (Cabelas) for my birthday (my wife is AWESOME!) and have invested in some good accessories (cannot afford the Swarovski scope yet, LOL) to get me started. At some point I might post pics of my .308, too. I am not new to shooting at all, but I have been a handgun and shotgun guy (primary LEO tools) for more than half my life. I am also a certified firearms instructor, and have a tinkerer's mind. I want to get into bolt guns as a hobby to test myself personally. I have enjoyed the advice and information from the many members on this forum, and I hope to be just as informative at some point to repay the benefit to others.

I am looking for good, reasonably close to NoVA ranges that exceed 100 yards. Thanks!

Reasonably close are 340 Defense in the WV panhandle (just North of the VA state line - maybe 10 minutes North of Berryville, VA / rte 7).
The State run ranges in VA on the West side of the state offer longer range like Hite Hollow (in the national forest) in Craigsville, VA - info is on the VDGIF site.
If you know someone who is a member at Isaak Walton League (range rules vary by chapter) they may be able to bring you onto their range.

Thanks! My wife and I were out in the Berryville area Saturday and we visit that part of the region a lot. Hope to move out there one day, but away from the wine/horse crowds. I like woods, Shenandoah, and quiet places away from highways.
