I need to remove the bottom plate from a Savage detachable box magazine so as to make it into a blind magazine. I tinkered with it a bit this morning but it didn't seem readily willing to come apart. Since these things are rather expensive, I am hoping that someone who has done this before can give me a tip on how to go about this.

Thank you

Kind of difficult to explain without showing...Assuming the bottom is plastic...there are 4 tabs on the plastic bottom, 2 on each side, that fit into slots in the metal on the sides of the magazine...there is also a tab in the rear of the magazine. I use a thin butter knife...wife does not like that...slide it between the plastic and metal and twist outward. Once the tabs on one side disengage the rest is easy.

The bottom is actually steel. I let my wife select the knife and with her blessing, I was able to get it apart. Thanks for your help!

Normally just squeezing the sides will disengage the tab from the slot, but the .223 magazines have that extra bend on the bottom to reduce the width, making it stiffer and harder to squeeze.
