Looked up some of my old loads and found 39.5 of this powder with a 95 grain Nosler BT was okay, but this was not my fav powder.

I have been getting SUPER accuracy out of the Nosler Flat Base 100 gr. bullets, on top of Varget powder.

If you want a less expensive bullet, try the 100 Gr. Sierra Pro-Hunter Part #:1540. It too is a SPFB type bullet.

My experience with the ballistic tipped bullets is that they come apart a little quicker than I personally like. Your experience may vary. Only way to know for sure is to try them yourself. Otherwise, if body shots are preferred, either of the 2 bullets listed above have proven more than capable.

Hate to burst your bubble but American Hunter magazine just put the 243 on its "Worst Deer Calibers" list. So you won't be able to kill deer with it no more cuz its just not enough gun. ::)

LOL right, the .243 won't kill a deer.

100 grn Sierra Game King above 35.5grns of IMR4064 shot .75 at 225 all day long and dropped a big mulie with one shot.

I'm sure glad no one told the Georgia deer when I was using my Ruger 77 and 85gr Sierra BTHPs.

I'm using 42grs of H414 w/ CCI 250's and Nosler 95gr ballistic tips.

Seems like every few years some "Wadi" comes along and decides that he is the only person that knows anything about rifles and hunting. . Think I'll just keep on hunting with mine anyway.

If you want a hot all around load for deer or hogs, load up some 80 gr barnes TTSX
bullets over RL17.

I got close to 3400 FPS out of our browning BLR with an 18" barrel.

I have a VLP 243. the only work i have done was bed the stock, and tweak the trigger! Good optics of course!

Mine will shoot Federal Factory load out there up to 95grns. And when put in the right place, the deer will drop. Nossler NBT's are devestating, 55'S. 70
S. 95'S. The 85 Sierra Gameking is bad to the bone. I mention this as I don't know how much you going to shoot the gun, but just for a hunting rig, I would shoot factory loads vs reloading!

I will send you pictures of my 243 targets if you wish, it's on of my favorite guns! It's nice to picked up a box of 55nbt's or a box of 90 and be confident! BLACK HILLS OR FEDERAL'S. SOME OF THE BELOW ARE HANDLOADS, BUT IT WILL SHOOT THE FACTORY'S JUST AS WELL

Not in the bullet grain you stated..and apparently CERTAINLY out of the realm for deer according to the leading magazine stated earlier...BUT I will be huntin with my .243 using Barnes TSX 85grain and 38.7 grains of RL15 with Remington primers.
Course on the flip side of that..I have some pretty impressive pics out of my (non) savage ML using Harvester 300gr PT GOLD with Blackhorn 209 and CCI 209M primers...not sure how to load them here yet but I (my T/C Encore) puts 4 shots in less than an inch at 100...yea I'm proud ;D

As you can see got my pics loaded. Hope I didnt step on toes posting my T/C !
BTW...Those .243 loads I mentioned above are grouping slightly less than an inch at 100 using a 2.5-8 VIII.
But in that super thin barrel...I gotta let it cool after every shot to get those groups

I wonder if anyone from American Hunter would care to stand downrange and unequivocally prove the 243 is not lethal :P

My Model 12 VLP loves 105 Grn A-Max in front of 37.5 grns of H4350. Lapua Brass, CCI 250, with .007 Jump. The 300 yd Whitetail last weekend and the 175 yd Pronghorn 2 weeks before both dropped in their tracks.

It wasn't American Hunter, it was Petersen's Hunting. The author was Skip Knowles. If you read the list you'll realize he kicked a real hornet's nest.

Intentionally.

243 not lethal???? (6mm)

All my favorite guns are 6mm! In some cases I want my 22-250! But overall, the 243 (6mm) will take just about anthing!

It's supposed to be funny. I don't know. I haven't read the article.
