I stumbled upon this place looking for information on a 338-06. I've always wanted to build a slightly more "exotic" round (read "basically handloads only"). Now I'm giving a serious look to rebarreling an axis or 110.

I hunt primarily whitetail and ducks, but I am looking to take my dad on a black bear hunt in the coming years. I usually hunt with a 30-06, but have taken deer and coyotes with an old single shot 45-70 as well.

I handload several rounds and really enjoy learning about reloading.

Anyway, that's me, and I hope to learn a good bit here!

Thank you guys for the welcome! I'm starting my search for an Axis or even a used 110. I'm thinking that I may pick up a 270 Win just for giggles, because I've never shot a 270 Win and the action should work for any of the 30-06 group of rounds (35 Whelen, 338-06, 25-06 etc). I'm thinking about starting at local pawn shops for lightly used rifles, but it's just an idea.

I'm getting excited about the prospect of this build/project.

Welcome. Bayou State. I assume Louisiana. Where are you located? I am just outside of New Orleans to the west.

I just completed a similar build on a axis. I used a Shaw barrel kit. Now I need to work on developing some loads for it.

I'm just outside of Baton Rouge. What caliber did you go with on your build? Good luck with load development!

It the rifle started out as a 30-06. I put 338-06 barrel on it. I just need to develop some loads for it now.
