I've been wandering the bushes with each my 1899B's this spring looking for a black bear. So far, the bears seem to be winning the contest this spring. I got to wondering though, when did Savage cease production of the 1899B. Does anyone know what the original production dates for them were?

Look's like they were made from 1899-1915, serial number range was 10,000-175,000. If it has an octagon barrel it's from that era. It was re-introduced in 1920 as the 1899B but with a round barrel and made until 1930. Ser# range was from 200,000-344,000.

Thanks, I was just wondering when they stopped producing them. My two are from 1900 and 1908. It's great to be hunting with them.

Love the old style photo!! What calibers are they?? I have four 1899A take down models. A .30-30 from 1930, a .303 from 1914, and two rare ones. A .25-35 from 1906 and my grail gun, a .38-55 from 1906. All great shooters!

They're both in .303 Savage.
