Loose rear baffle

I did not see a place to introduce myself but I am new to this forum. Anyways I have a used savage with a loose rear baffle. Is there a quick fix for this or do I need a find a new rear baffle? It is so loose that it is able to rotate. I checked the ball bearing and it does not seem that anything is missing. I am pretty new to savage bolt operation so any explanations are helpful. Thanks

Its not a problem. It has to be able to rotate, or better said, remain stationary while the bolt body rotates between the close and open positions. The rear baffle has two functions. One, the last line of defense in the event of gas blow back from a blanked primer, case failure and etc, and two, has the cam (ramp) for the primary extraction.
The ball bearing you see rides in a slot in the bolt body for alignment purposes when the bolt slides back and forward. There are actually two bearings and a spring.

Well it is actually slipping out of that slot. When the bolt is open, the baffle slides back and forth and can easily be moved out of its slot or rail that the ball bearing sits in

I had the same problem on a Savage Model 11. I couldn't find my post about it but the rear bolt baffle seemed to be a different design than what was on my older Savage 10FLP. My 10FLP rear bolt baffle has a visible dual ball bearing arrangement and the Model 11 bearing were of a newer design and staked in. The bolt baffle on my Model 11 was so loose it would just fall off. I ended up calling the Savage Warranty Dept and they sent me a replacement with the visible dual bearings - haven't had a problem since. I hope this helps.

Well thanks for the advice. This is actually for a striker, so I don't know if the warrenty department can help me. Its worth a shot
