just broke in and sighted scope on a new 110 hunter 6.5cm 24 inch barrel, getting 1 inch or less groups with store bought ammo. thought i would try some reloads. anybody got any pet loads they would like to share? i have hornady 140 gr hpbt and hornady 129 sst bullets on hand, also have h4350, imr4350, rl16,rl17 and varget powders. any ideas on how much jump to try? i think this gun is going to be a shooter, i would like to shrink groups to half inch or better.

I'm betting you shouldnt have troubles getting 1/2moa.. longer barrels tend to like slower burn(that's a generalization) I try to find burn rates that match barrel length + powders that get me as close to full case capacity if not even lightly compressed... it seems to me the less powder slope you have In your case the more efficient burn you get... that's just some of my observations.. I'm sure there may be many that disagree:)

If you are into Hornady ammo, the 140 ELD-M #26331 and 147 ELD-M #26333 shot accurately in my 24 inch barrel 10T-SR 6.5mm CM and in both of my model 12 26 inch barrel 6.5mm CMs.
The Sierra 142 SMK and 130 TMKs also shoot well in all of my 6.5mm CM rifles.
The Hornady 143 ELD-X #2635 is a great hunting round with a high ballistic coefficient and shoots just a bit less accurately than the match rounds.
The 24-inch barrel version seems to like the 130 and 140 grains better than the heavier bullets. It is just the opposite for the 26-inch model 12s.
Every barrel has its own preferences and other people's 'pet loads' don't matter to your specific barrel unless you are really fortunate to match up with a barrel that has the same preferences.

H4350 and IMR4451 Enduron are both extreme powders that are very temperature insensitive - that's a plus if you are planning to shoot under a wide range of temperatures.

IMR 4350 works great for all three of my rifles as does IMR4451 Enduron powder.
My 24-inch barrel has a slight preference for IMR 4350 over IMR4451 powder.

Reloader 17 seems to work best with the 130 grain bullets.

Varget, IMR4064, H4895 and VV N140 don't shoot as accurately as the slower powders.
They shoot OK but I am an accuracy nut and strive for every bit of accuracy that I can find.
Again, that is what my barrels prefer - your barrel might be totally another case.

Anyone tried the new Hornady A Tips?? Not sure if they have them in 6.5 yet but I did get a box of the 230gr 30cal to try out.

I was able to get factory 140 ELD Match shells to shoot 1/2 MOA, so I stopped working up a load when it happened to match the velocity and groups that I was getting with factory rounds.
41.5 Grains of H4350. I do load a touch longer, so my hand loads are slightly better shooting than factory, but not a lot.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Hornaday Black 6.5CM, on sale now at Academy is being discontinued by Hornaday in their tradition of getting rid of great shooting ammo and bullets (think A-Max).

Try it and see if it shoots as well as it does in my buddies Thompson 6.5CM (ragged one-hole groups) and keep as a benchmark load to aid in diagnosing groups spread issues.

If a higher velocity is a desire, RL-17 and 130 grain will get you to 3000 fps and good accuracy. It's just a bit temp sensitive so not so good for bench rest shooting as it is for hunting.
