I never worked on building a Savage, so I'm a duck out of water.

I'm assuming the barrel you found NOS is a prefit, since it's already chambered.

For a shouldered barrel, take all the required measurements as you would with an M700 (including recoil lug, crush, etc), flat breech/no bolt nose recess.

You still need a recoil lug and nut, the aftermarket "precision" ground lugs and nuts are only a few bucks more than the cheaper ones, lots of different manuf's...
Jim @ Northland Shooter Supply is a good resource for parts and any questions you might have.

After I learned how the barrel worked, WOW thats easy peasy work. I'm used to doing everything, and this takes the fun out of it. Kinda like my Dan Wesson. The barrel is a OME takeoff from a new rifle.

Between several different suppliers I can build the bolt for under a hundred dollars.

The stock will get strengthened with steel rods, sealed, that will keeping it from warping.

I have several scopes, bases, you name it. Its really going to be the cats meow.

Again, as I said, I'll send the receiver off for bluing, everything else will be fairly nice and blued.

The trigger guard will be steel and I'm knocking around the idea about the floor plate which one do I want to go with.

Do you have the stock in your hands yet?
I don't know if this has been covered above (I'm lazy, and don't read dozens of posts), but stock/action compatability does get a bit complicated. Depending on the date of manufacture of your action, it could be an older "staggered" feed, or the newer "center feed". This affects the inletting, and action screw spacing.

Is there a magazine attached to your action? If not, it's center feed (or, it's a staggered feed that's had it removed). The older staggered feed actions are "flat-back" (not sure if all were, or if there was any overlap) instead of round (only affects your scope base selection).

Somewhere on the site is a good article explaining the differences, so you can determine if your stock is compatible with your action without modifications being required.

I've read about the two different ones, can anyone tell me what mine is?????

Since I don't have anything on the receiver what would a: YOM 2007, Long Action, 30-06 be; staggered or center feed????

thanks.

Walz first post said it was a 2007 centerfeed.

Been reading on the ammo feeding difference between years, this is great education. :smile-new: I have to admit this is going to be a lot easier build than some of my other firearms I've built.

Of course building a "custom", non lawyer, Remington Rolling Block rifle of today, and using parts from the past, parts from the present has its challenges.

Yep, if you know what you have and what parts you should buy, Savages are super easy!
You will love the accuracy that the floating bolthead will give you, even with a factory barrel!

Contacted Savage and its a: factory built 30-06, center feed, built August 2007, on a cheap ass plastic stock.
Now it's going to be a: 300 Win Mag, center feed, on a black stain finish wooden stock.

Sling, scope Piccadilly rail, recoil butt pad. Everything is in the workshop for these parts.

I want to build me a bolt that is custom, that will take some time to achieve. I have a guy who will give it a nice finish if it comes to it.

I'm having a bump in the road with the barrel, I'll follow up on it when things are more clear.

Parts are starting to trickle in now.

Oh this keeps getting better & better. I can’t wait to see this! It’ll be the most ill “Original, GANGSTER Number 1“, SON!

Nothing fancy, just a moose hunting rifle to fit my needs, nothing out of the ordinary, I need one that will hold up to whatever the backwoods throws at me. :p

Piccadilly rails are excellent for adjusting the scope to eye distance.

The bolt will be tuned up, I like my bolt bodies smooth as glass, just bare buffed steel. The bolt handle will be customized for me, I use sweeping bolts. I want to lap the bolt, receiver to match them up.

I've decided to go with a wooden stock, which will needed to be customized. The stock will be customized for my length of pull, my grip, I'll add some rods for strength to prevent cracking and twisting and a couple of hollow supports for the two receiver mount bolts. :heh:

I'm looking for a customized one piece floorplate, the aftermarket ones are *****en, they hold more rounds. :distracted:

I want to tighten up the headspace, clean up the barrel, depending on the measurements I have other ideas.

I like humor, however not everyone can build a rifle from just a receiver, so I'm adapt to building firearms.

Some of my firearms are all factory original like my Polish AKM and its sister AKMS both are hand built using all original parts, and both are blued just like the factory of that year 1965 and 1970.

Getting back to my builder,I've got the stock where I want it, took all morning but it will be just right for hunting, I've done some mods that are beneficial for me. .

You should see my armory, 50 long guns, 10 handguns, are all in excellent condition. Hunting rifles are very specific, everything about them is for the person using it, I have three sections of the armory; one is hunting, second is military rifles all of them are 100% original, then we have the home defense firearms, which are 90% original factory. Third is my handguns and they are diverse.

Off the shelf firearms are not you want if you want to excel in the woods. I customize everything from the trigger, down to the nuts and bolts.

The Picatinny rail (/ˈpɪkətɪni/ (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English) or /ˌpɪkəˈtɪni/ (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English)), or Pic rail for short, also known as a MIL-STD-1913 rail or STANAG 2324 rail, is a military standard (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Military_Standard) rail interface system (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_Integration_System) that provides a mounting platform for firearm (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm) accessories. It was originally used for mounting scopes (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scope_(rifle)) atop the receivers (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Receiver_(firearms)) of larger caliber rifles (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifle). Once established, its use expanded to also attaching other accessories, such as: iron sights (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_sights), tactical lights (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactical_light), laser aiming modules (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_aiming_module), night vision devices (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_vision_device), reflex sights (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflex_sight), foregrips (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foregrip), bipods (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipod), slings (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sling_(firearms)) and bayonets (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayonet).

I have auto correct, its hooked on Ebonics, as long as you know what I'm talking about I do give a rat's ass.
