Hello Savage experts,

We recently received a new to us pre-2003 Savage 111 LA 7mm-08; the gun is intended for a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40. My question is what mounting system am I better off using to accommodate this seemingly to short of scope? I was originally going to purchase the DNZ Game Reaper 1-piece Scope Base/Rings but am wary if it will work. Am I better of getting a Weaver 1 piece base instead?

Thanks for the help!

No need for a EGW rail with a DNZ Game Reaper as it's base and rings combined. The DNZ would be the better choice IMO as the EGW has an extension that juts out over the recoil lug and barrel nut that can/will likely prevent you from being able to move the scope back for proper eye relief. Only way to get around that is to go with overly high rings which ruins your cheek weld.

Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40mm has a mounting length of 5.4 inches according to the spec's on their website. The DNZ Game Reaper for a pre-2003 long action (flat-back) has an outside-to-outside ring spacing of 5.06" according to their website. I'd recommend a medium height.
