Has anybody taken a hack saw to a Choate Ultimate Varmint Synthetic Stock to make a Striker rear grip stock?

I do know the rear grip on that particular stock is huge, and may be too fat to accomplish what you're proposing. You might want to find one you can just hold and check dimensions on and see how your hands fit it before committing to such an endeavor.
Good luck.

I think it will work. As will a lot of chassis without the butt stock.

I have thought about doing this also, as I hate the factory striker grip and would much prefer a rear grip. I worry about the action screw spacing though...seems it’s different on the striker as compared to model 10/12 actions?

I am looking at a left hand short Savage action to make into a rear grip. My understand that if you keep it over 26 inches total length you are OK. Some states have a max barrel length for handguns to hunt.... but not just to shoot. But, now that I am looking the LH Savages have doubled in price!!!!! Story of my life.

I think a LH thumb hole could be altered too.

Bill, as far as I know you are correct...keep it 26” overall and barrel length longer than 16” and you are good to go. By ATF definition it is still a rifle. State laws may be different however. If you’re doing this on a rifle action you are correct, several people over at the specialty pistols forums have done just that with the choate stock. Call choate and ask if they have any blemished in stock, normally it is $238 I believe for the stock but the blemished ones are $125. You have to call them though. It’s easier on my mind to hack off the stock on one that’s half priced. I ordered one of these just today. My plan is to get a savage 12fv and do just this for my own build.

Cecil it the post titled “Savage Day” a little further down this section, a guy has pics of two of his just like what you’re describing. I really like the looks of the choate stock like this.

I have completed my project of doing just this, and will posting some details and pics later in a new post
