Gentlemen,

I have a new Axis 7mm-08, have been reloading. It has been years since I last reloaded so things are a little rusty in my memory but I have a round that is accurate and I will use for deer hunting. The question is, what is causing the brass to form the creases around the neck? It seems nearly every round now does this. I have only fired maybe 150 rounds through this rifle. Could these cases be safely re-used?

Chamber throat ware or in need of cleaning maybe?

Herby, Are these creases occurring when you run the through the Sizing die or in the chamber of your rifle? If it is from the die after you resize, then I am guessing that you may be using a bit too much lube on the case or getting some on the neck. If it is from the chamber, then I would suspect a burr or foreign object in the chamber. Inspect with a dummy round to see if you can pin point the location of where the crease comes from. Before firing it may just look like a scratch.

I would first take the die apart and clean it well, then use as small an amount of lube as possible.
A small can of sizing wax applied with just your fingers should last a long while.
I personally wouldn't hesitate shooting those cases.

I would not apply the can personally. Just a minute amount on the fingers rubbed onto the body and a touch on the neck.

Thanks for the thoughts, I did run a dummy round through and found no marking at all on the neck. I looked for a burr or blemish in the chamber but could not see one. I went ahead and reloaded the cartridges, the small spiral crease in the neck was burnished out by the die, but still just visible. I haven't had a chance to shoot this batch yet. My thought is that continual firing, deforming and reloading will weaken the brass. But I am no expert..

If you could post a picture of one of the cases, that would help diagnose the problem.
