I recently bought a new Savage model 16 300 WSM and would like the action to operate a little smoother. I am not very knowledgable about alot of this stuff and would like some advice of what I can have done to my action so that it operates smoother.

Thanks

BINGO! A time and true job will make the most noticeable difference.

You can install a boltlift kit in the bolt, which is supposed to lessen the amount of bolt lift required to work the action. When doing this you also have to shorten the rear bolt screw by about .012", which more than likely needs done by a machine shop due to the hardness of the screw. I have one of these in every one of my Savages and cannot say that I have noticed any difference in the bolt lift in any of them.

If your gun is brand new I would suggest working the action alot to wear things in. After a couple hundred times it should ease up some.
