Now this will sound funny. But filled a rear bag with unpopped popcorn inside a plastic bag to keep it dry.. was in a hurry, and that was all
I could find around the house... been there for over 5 years now... one day will get around to replacing the popcorn with someting more permanent...

I have a sock bag and filled it with dry kidney beans.

I've sued kitty litter, airsoft plastic BBs, corncob grindings or walnut shells...

Polymer beads are the best cause they wont rot when wet. I have a bag that I filled with plain corn brass cleaning media, and for some positions I actually prefer how it is more ridged than polymer bead filled bags. I just make sure I dry it out after it gets wet.

I use sand blaster sand. Had one filled with 9 shot but it gave me a hernia moving it around. Some of those nice pre filled bags have cat litter in them I’ve read. Little lighter, must work.

I would use poly pellets or airsoft bbs myself but I often carry by rear bag out field shooting and don't want a really heavy bag.

Yep, I have 4 filled with the poly pellets. They work great. They hold a nice shape, have just enough weight to them so they do not move easy, but do not weigh to much.
The older bags I have with actual sand in them, are heavy and dusty. I still keep them for back up.

My Caldwell bags are currently filled with Navy beans. Not as inexpensive as sand but it works well.

Stuff out of a bean bag chair. Small bean bag chair at walmart runs $15 and you can do, probably, 30-40 shooting bags.

I just replaced the stupid heavy fill in my tactical udder with bean bag fill. Took about 4lbs off the weight. Yes, sometimes weight can be your friend and others not.

Due to static cling, Easiest way is to run hot water in your closed bathroom for about 5 mins., with the fill present. The humidity keeps the fill from sticking to everything.

I am a carpenter. So makes sense that i used sawdust. Don't let it get wet!

Brownell's sells some black lava sand that is heavy, fine and very effective. It worked really well with my Protektor and Edgewood bags.
IMO, the main thing with whatever fills the bags is to get the bags packed firm so they don't allow the gun to move around.
The fine grained packing gets even the bag ears tight and firm.
I've been using my Protector bag for over 6 years, shooting over 5,000 rounds a year and it is still firm and tight.

Uncooked rice in bags made from the legs of old blue jeans. My ex made them for me almost 25 years ago and they're still going strong.

Last big bags I needed to fill, I bought the polymer beads at WalMart. They are the best material I've used for big bags. I still like the heavy zircon sand for my benchrest rear bags and front rest, however. There are times when you want the bag to be easily moved and others when you want it to stay where you put it.
