My first Savage rifle is a 7mm-08, Weather Warrior with Accustock. The 120 gr. loads I've worked up for it shoots bug holes. Also, I have already picked up a 22-250 AI barrel and all the bullets, dies, gages, etc., to set it up for another caliber.
A Local trade paper has an ad for a Savage 111 in 7mm Mag., wood stock with 3-9 scope for sale; another ad has a Savage .223 rifle with Accustock for sale... Same price for either one. Which one would you choose for future projects ?... Thanks.
Lin.
Why not get them both? That way you have all the bases covered, action wise anyway.

Depends on what you want to do with it. .223 is much more fun and affordable to shoot, Your 7-08 will kill just about everything a 7mm mag will and not beat you up as much. The 7mmmag is good for alot of stuff, just depends on what you want to do.

+1. You already have a gun that will do the same job as the 7 mm Mag for most things. The .223 is a real change.
BTW, now that we are on the topic, have you tried your 7mm-08 with 140 gr or heavier bullets? There was a long thread recently on the twist of 7 mm-08 barrels Savage uses and at least a couple of us have reported poor accuracy with heavier bullets. I'd be interested in knowing how your rifle handles them.
