View Full Version : Problem reaming 6mmBR to 6mm Creedmoor?

Have a 6mmBR barrel that I was planning to ream out to 6mm Creedmoor. My understanding was that it would be a simple operation of running the Creed reamer in as it is longer than the BR. Was talking with a gunsmith the other day and he said he would have to check the chamber as there were differences between the BR and Creed that may necessitate cutting the barrel to accommodate the new chamber.

Thoughts?

Thoughts?Not sure what the pressure difference in the rounds are but you will be removing strength from the chamber area and barrel having it bored and rifled. Heck by the time you pay for having the work done you may be able to just buy a good drop in shilen or criterion ( or whoever's makes drop ins for your type of rifle) me personally, I would probably buy a blank and have it reamed, bored and fitted.

The 6 BR is slightly smaller at the base and at the shoulder, so you should get a full clean up with the Creedmoor reamer without losing any length.

Bored and rifled? This is a prefit 6mm BR barrel, just running the Creed reamer in a bit.
