Hello everyone,
I’m brand new to this forum, but I have always had a soft spot for the Savage 1899-99.
I was at one of my local haunts and found what I believe to be a 1899 H? takedown in .303
Savage. Well other than I am a sucker for all things nostalgic, I purchased the rifle, and
along with some help from my uncle. We were able to date the rifle to being made in 1911.
It has by far some of the nicest wood I have ever seen on a rifle, and there is some factory
engraving on the bottom of the receiver, which reads Mt. Warner . If anyone has any info, and
wouldn’t mind sharing it, i would be deeply grateful. Thank you

Don't think that is factory engraving on the bottom of the receiver, it would have been after it was sold.

You could get it lettered and see where it was shipped to after it was accepted at the factory.

Thank you Mad Dog.
My only question now is what are you referring to, when you said “have it lettered” ? Would that involve contacting
Savage Arms and asking them?

If you can, post some pics please! A lot of the old timers liked to "personalize" their rifle by etching or carving their name somewhere on the gun. I just bought an 1895 Winchester with somebody's name scratched into the butt stock. To me, that adds character!! If these old rifles could just talk, the history!!

Mt Warner may have been a previous owner.

Once I can figure out how to do so, I will post some pictures.

Yes, contacting Savage Arms will start you on your way to lettering it.

The old historian retired and sold the files back to Savage Arms.
