Some advice please

Have a 12fv started it's life as a 204 Ruger. Converted it myself to a 22-250. Looking to give it new life as a 6.5 creedmore. Hunt elk and deer in eastern Washington. Opinions?

12FV makes a darn fine varmint/ bench rifle.
I'd go with a sporter barrel on a hunting rig.

As much as I love my 260 Rem, I feel it's a little under gunned for hunting Elk. Deer, it will slay for sure. I hunt with a 30-06 and a 168 gr Barnes TTSX, and I find it to be the minimum I would feel confident in being able to put down an Elk. I took a 5 point bull in 2015 with the 30-06 and the 168 Barnes TTSX going 2800 fps.. Shot the Elk right through the heart (1 shot) from 150 yards... and he still ran 250-300 yards before he went down. I had actually thought I missed him because he didn't flinch, stumble, stagger, or even limp funny as I watched him blazing away.

I know that the ballistics say the 6.5 mm round has enough to take Elk out to 400 yards, But after watching a guy shoot one with a 6.5 PRC @ 300 yards (he had to shoot it 4X and it didn't even flinch on the first 3 shots) I have a different opinion... Yes, bullet placement is key and guys have been killing them with 6.5MM calibers for a long time.

So, I would say look at the 308 if you have to stay with a short action caliber.
