Looking to build a light weight deer rifle. I am hoping to gather some imput regarding converting my savage model 11 thxp .223 to the .257 roberts. Have any site-members done this conversion?, is it feasible? What problems would i encounter? I am aware that a new bolt face/ bolt would be required. What magazine would work best? I would appreciate any advice concerning this conversion. I recently built a 6.5 cm on a stevens 200 /.270 win action that turned out great....i now have the bug!

I rebarreled a mod 11 243 to 257 Roberts AI. 243 mag worked fine with little or no tweaking. Lug abutment and bolt raceway required a little clearancing for the AI. The non-AI 257 Bob will probably not need that clearancing but if you use a 243/308 mag tweaking will probably be needed. A 22-250 mag should be the best choice as 22-250, 257, 6mm are all based of the 7mm mauser case (if remembered correctly).
Good luck on your build,
Randy

Doin a 257 roberts right now. I’m starting with a 22-250. But my understanding is the 308 family all use same magazine and includes the 22-250, which is based on the 250 savage. I can put rounds of 257 into the 22-250 mag so i think i am good there. Have not put barrel on action yet. Still need a new nut lol

the 223 should just need the bolt spacer taken out and new head. Then just get a 243/308 based mag. It should work. My 22-250 mag clips into my 223 hog hunter fine so it all should be easy swap
