A few years before he passed, my dad passed on to me his Model 29 from the late 1930s, or possibly 1940. It's pre-war for sure. On the tang are two T&D holes filled with set screws. I've seen examples online of model 29s with a tang peep sight and a 1939 reproduction Savage catalog lists the model 29 as available with a "Savage no. 30 ear peep sight" and a "Savage no. 31 folding middle site." Anyone have information on if these were Lyman sights and if so, what model? Thanks!

You have the model correct, it was a model 30 but it was sold under the Savage flag.

I have a model 29 wearing one of these sights and there are no makers stamp on it anywhere. It may have been made by Lyman for Savage to sell on there guns but must have been patented to Savage. Unlike the Lyman 54 sight which was only made for the Savage model 1920 rifle, Lyman stamped it and sold it seperately for the rifle yet supplied them to Savage. Understand what I'm saying cause I'm starting to confuse myself now.
