Anyone have pics of a rear sight and/or know where to find one?

I recently bought a rear sight from Numrich for a 99E. I don't have any pics of the replacement or the process as it was an easy buy, receive, dovetail and punch install. I do recall that when shopping for the one I needed that there were several options so finding what you need should be relatively easy. If, I recall correctly, the G has the long piece and ramp that comes up towards the receiver from the dovetail (old Marlin type???). Hope this helps

Just research online for a Savage 99 rear sight and you'll get a lot of pictures. The 99s carried several different open sights (ones that dovetail in) and either a Lyman or Marbles pop up tang mount peep sight. My 1937 99 has both. The dovetail rear sights are very reasonable in price and fairly easy to find (both new and used). The tang peep sight is getting to be pretty costly ($150-300).

I'd appreciate a link if you have one. The few I've seen have no elevator. Also I want one period correct if possible.

The sight types changed periodically with the model ID. You'll have to check your serial number to verify the production year. Then when you see the parts for sale, you can tell if they are the style that came on your 99. I believe the 99Gs were built about 1955. And the bad news, most of the sellers for these sights think they are made of solid gold. Hopefully, someone on this site has a 99G and can send you a photo of their sight.

G's ended production in 1941.

Your killing me here Travis, I don't get on here very often and when I do I gotta run around correcting bad info. Get Murrays book, never mind Royals.

Mad Dog, if you look further down the list of threads you'll be able to dispute everything I've said about MY Savage 99. Maybe it isn't a 1927 99F or it might not even be a Savage or a 30-30.
