Need help deciding which action to use for 450 Bushmaster. Also, is the Savage 18519 from northland shooters supply the same as savage 10,11,12, or 16?

Wow, those are spendy. Once you find the right action, I'd probably try to find a donor rifle with the action I needed.

Also, there's probably no need to start multiple threads (http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?63648-Savage-18519-450-Bushmaster).

At those prices I'd just go buy a complete rifle. Heck, you can find new factory take-off short-actions in our classifieds quite regularly for $300 or less.

As for your question regarding the 18519 action, that's just Savage's SKU# for it. Yes it's the same as a 10/11/12/14/16 action other than it is "in the white" and needs blued or parkerized.

450 bushmaster is an AR-15 cartridge. If I were to build a short action bolt I would lean toward 45 raptor. Which is exactly what our local gunshop does and they sell a boat load for our deer season(Iowa).

Thanks guys I appreciate the info and I’m not a reloader so 450 Bushmaster seems to make more sense for me.

If you want more juice than a 450 BM, converting a WSM to 450 Marlin is just as easy. If you want less recoil the new 350 Legend on a 223 bases action would work too.

One of my builds is going to be a .450 Marlin. I have always wanted a single shot .45-70 but did not want the limitations of a falling block. I could shoot it using smokeless, BP or duplex loads.

I agree with above about actions. Just buy a complete rifle and you will have money left over, especially if you can sell the barrel. Something like a Cabela's 12FV with rebates or on sale.

Used is even better route since actions are rarely an issue on used rifles.

Hi I used a model 10 in 308 that way I did not have to fool around with it the "rim " of the case I also used a boyds stock and a Mcqanne barrel 1 in 16 twist 18 inches long , get your self a go gauge and it takes 10 minutes to head space Im still in the process of breaking the barrel in
