Tested a few loads today had some nice results from the crony
all were test with RL 17 and 24 inch 1 and 9 twist shilen barrel
The Loads I used were from publications I found on line and from data run on quick loads by another member for me
None of these loads should be used without your own research
first was 160 grain Sierra HPGK with an OAL of 2.950 At 51 grains average crono 2810
next 4 all with 160 gr Nosler Partition with an OAL of 2.994
52 grains 2890
52.5 grains 2930
53 grains 2960. For me this is my max load
53.5 grains 2990 how ever not sure if I missmeasured or did not trim 2 cases but while testing 53.5 I had two rounds spike one was 3030 and sticky bolt and 1 was 3110 which flattened a primer
last was 165 gr Sierra Game Changer OAL of 3.130 yep single feed won’t fit mag
51 grain 3010
did not load enough test to do group test as I don’t have a light kit for my crono and I could not get a reading from covered bench
Next will be group testing

Next will be group testingIt's hard to find a bad load with a shilen barrel.. I've done many many build with shilens and it seems everything I've cooked up shot extremely well:) jmo

Good info! I really need to get my .284 back out and finish doing load development for it. Started on it back in the spring of 2016 and right off the bat had a good shooting load with H4895 and 140gr Partitions, but the speed wasn't anything great. 47.4gr was averaging 2961fps from my 23" Shilen 1-9" with no pressure signs. After that I got sidetracked by other things and in the nearly 3 years since the barrel has been moved from an Axis action to a 110 short-action so I'll be starting from scratch.

Be sure to post up the results if you do any RL17 testing with 140gr bullets.

Nice data, and IMO good results, pushing 160's @ 2800+ is plenty fast. No regrets I assume on choosing the SAAMI chamber over the Match?

Whats the jump on those 160's?

As J.Baker posted "Be sure to post up the results if you do any RL17 testing with 140gr bullets."

I am looking forward to the results as well.

My jump with the 160 partition is .026 that was to fit the mag
my jump with 160 Sierra HPGK is .020 but I could go to 10 or 12
the jump on the 165 Sierra game changer was also .020 that one does not fit the mag anyway so I could go to .012 or .010 also
No I am very happy I went SAAMI and in a short action if I woul have had any extended throat I would have had terrible jump

as for 140 grains I am leaving those to my 7-08 but I might load a few just to see what the crono says
Next will be group test
