I’m building mountain gun and I’d like to know if I can use a 116 LWH action for a magnum caliber like 300 PRC. If I swap out the bold head to a .532, would everything else hold up to abuse from a heavier caliber? Wondering if the weight reduction cut into the action would be a factor in that. Thanks!

I'm going to piggy back (Sorry OP!), because I have the exact same question about the 16 LWH action.

I would put the PRC on a large shank action. There is not that much weight savings on a LWH action.

Sharpshooter, thanks for the reply. What are the benefits of the large shank over the standard/small?

Thicker chamber wall wall thickness in the barrel with the large shank.

Sorry lane I was thinking 6.5 and so I totally goofed the reply up.

Should work fine. Shouldering up the barrel will help a little with the pressure concerns that Jim and Fred mention when they say go large tenon.

I appreciate all the responses. Since the 300 PRC isn’t a short action, would I be better off just starting with a 300 or 338 win mag action? To my knowledge they have the same bolt face as the 300 PRC, just slightly longer OAL

I edited my post above. I don't know of the action being different between the 30-06/270 action and the magnum, action. If you had to go with something improved a RUM action has larger threads.
