Looking on info for 284 Winchester shooting 160 grain Nosler partition with an oal of 2.990 looking to load with IMR 4350
and RL 17

Thanks but Nosler has no data on the RL 17 and there data on IMR 4350 is terrible compared to my other manuals they show a max load for the 150 that is 5.5 grains below everyone else’s max on the standard 150
plus all of the data I can get is with Sammi spec OAL of 2.80 I know with quick loads you can adjust

My Lee (2011) and Nosler (2002) manuals are in the same ballpark as these.

Unfortunately the data for the .284 Win. hasn't been updated in a while from what I can tell. As such you wonly likely to find any published data for any powders that have been added in the last 10 years or so as a result. I have a bottle of RL-16 here I thought about trying in my .284 with 140's but haven't gotten around to it yet. Gotta get a new brain box for my chrono before I do any more load development though.

My recommendation would be to just do a ladder test, starting low and working up until you start seeing the first signs of pressure.

See it’s funny because those loads are lighter loads then my hornady volume 2 but of course it only has 4350
My old hornady and my old Lyman book have kick ass loads but nothing with new powder
I ordered the hornady 10th but I gues it won’t have what I want

I have a Nosler Number Four book (1996) that has data for 160 Partitions and it is only for 2.800 OAL.

Reason I posted the link was to provide what Nosler lists with at least one of your powder choices. No load manual will have your OAL, they will all have SAAMI OAL of 2.800". Don't recall seeing anyone here reply to Quick Load requests.

FWIW, I have every Nosler manual published. 284Win first appeared in #4, and in every once since, RL15 is listed as most accurate powder.

Yea I have info from two diff art I also in 6mmBR.com but then like you said lots of other info some that disputes the articles
I already loaded some test to those loads with the RL17. 52, 53, 53.5
i might drop down to 51 to start if I can’t find some backup info to the stuff in 6mmBR
yea RL15 and 19 have book info I ordered the hornady 10th edition but now I found out no RL17 for 284 in it
even books I have hornady, Lyman, Sierra, Barnes, and a Speer, all of these are diff with max loads. my Speer being my newest and also coldest it max loads 3 to 5 grains below other books
JBaker gave me loads from hornady 10th and it’s 3 grains less on max then the vol 2

I only wanted someone to run it on Quickloads because I assume you can change the OAL I have a program called load from a disc and I can change Oal but it is an older program and you can no longer get updates it does not have RL 17 in its database

I have the Hornady (10th), Nosler (5th), Lee (2nd), Berger (1st), Sierra (5th, 2nd Printing), Western Powders (1st) and Hodgden 2019. Starting and max loads for anything .284 Win are all over the place between them - I'm talking almost 2 full grains difference in max for the same powder in different manuals with a 140gr bullet. For an older cartridge that's still fairly popular in some competition circles - and to a lesser extent with hunters, you would think the data would be a little more up to date and consistent.

Have visited other forums where guys with Quick Load would run requests, forget which ones they were now. I ran into a similar situation when trying to get load info for 6.5CM/Nosler 129ABLR and RL16 as neither RL17 nor H4350 were available locally. I absolutely refused to pay more than double the price for a pound of powder after adding shipping and Hazmat.

Found good info at 6.5CM forum in addition to email response from Alliant.

Good luck in your search, will be interested in your results as I am a 7mm fan. :thumb:

Nosler makes two different 160 Partitions in .284 - the Partition SP #16327 and Partition Gold # 52150. You need to specify which one.
To make any sense out of a QuickLOAD run you should also include barrel length and twist of the barrel.
It would also be good to state the case trim length.

Both IMR4350 and RL17 are temperature sensitive so you also should state the temperature range you are expecting as well.
IMR4350 over the range from 0 to 125 deg. F. has a velocity change on the order of 155 fps for a equivalent powder charge.

QuickLOAD provides 17 listings for each printout in charge increments that you prefer such as 0.1 or 0.2 grains, etc.
It includes velocity, pressure,

If you don't provide all the data, I don't think the QuickLOAD results would be very helpful.
If you provide the right information, you'll get some pretty good info for planning your loads.
With what you provided, you won't.

The following loads are near PMax so they are not recommended for a starting load.
Be careful with loads near PMax.
Reducing Seating depth from 2.990 to 2.978 will put this load over PMax at 70 deg. F.
Increasing the trim length from 2.160 to 2.171 will put these loads over PMax at 70 deg. F.
If you don't normally keep track of your measurements, you'd be wise to drop the charges by 10% and then work up until you see pressure signs.

They are for 160 grain Nosler Partition SP #16327 bullets. The Partition Gold # 52150 are very similar in results.
With the limited data you provided I assumed a 24 inch barrel, and a trim length of 2.160 at 70 deg. F. A longer trim length increases the pressure.
The max load with IMR4350 would be 53.7 grains with a pressure of 63,745 psi and a muzzle velocity of 2,868 fps and a bullet exit time of 1.165 msec.
At 40 deg. F, with the same charge, the pressure drops to 60,670 psi with a mv of 2,831 fps and a bullet exit time of 1.190 msec.

With the same assumptions, using RL 17,
The max load with Reloader 17 would be also be 53.8 grains with a pressure of 63,437 and a velocity of 2,947 fps and an bullet exit time of 1.160 msec.
At 40 deg. F., with the same charge, the pressure drops to 59,672 psi with a mv of 2913 and a bullet exit time of 1.187 msec.

What is your case volume and your test load MV? You will need this for someone with quickload to help you get real close. The lot of Wwinchester brass that was used in one test was more consistent than other brands of fire brass as far as volume goes.

ok thank you yes 24 inch barrel the Noslers are 16327 I never checked trim they are brand new brass but I just measured it the Winchester brass is 2.160 to 2.165

the hornady brass is 2.155
i will be testing at 20 to 40deg summer shooting will be 80 to 90 deg
true seating dearth or OAL is 2.9940

ok so I think my test loads should be ok I will add a 52.5 and not just jump from 52 to 53
i am looking for 2800 to 2900 and accurate so I am right in range I want for velocity

my Sierra game king and game changer both seat .17 deeper so I will have fig that out after I get the partitions set

Case capasity is 66grains and my MV I don’t know yet I have not run any test

I finished my test loads so now once I get the scope mounts in it will be time to test
test loads 160 grain Nosler Partition 52, 52.5, 53 and 53.5 grains of RL 17 OAL 2.994 seated to .025 of the lands
53.5 slightly compressed load
test load 160 grain Sierra HPGK. 51 grains RL17 OAL 2.950 seated .020 off the lands 51 grains not compressed
test load 165 grain Sierra Game Changer 51 grains RL 17 OAL 3.130 seated .020 off the lands not compressed ( must be loaded 1 at time won’t fit magazine ) I may try 51.5 after other test if I feel need but measurements tell me 51.5 will be slightly compressed both Sierra’s are seated to same depth inside case
