6.5x47 groups..

Below is a picture of some of my groups shot with my savage. All the parts from this gun was bought from Jim at Northlands. It is a Savage SS varmint action, HS precision stock, and Shilen 26" Bull barrel in 6.5x47. This gun shoots real good. I also put a SSS trigger on it. I still need to work on this load a little bit. It has some vertical in it and I have been getting some fliers for some reason. I hope to work that out with changing to better dies. Let me know what you think. I have been using Forestner dies and resizing each time. I just switched to Wilson dies and just going to neck size and see if that helps. I hope to shoot some rounds this weekend and see if there is any improvement.

Nothing wrong with that.

Work on your hold/rest combination.....and your breathing. I release near the bottom of the exhale.

Are you using a cheekrest? If not, try wrapping some foam with duct tape so that you get the same cheek weld.

Weight bullets and measuring ogives yet? Turning necks for consistent bullet release?

Overall....I would be happy with those groups.

Forgot - get rid of the color on the paper. Go to black and white.....with a 2 or 3 inch white center.

Yeah they are not too bad. I would like for them to be tighter. Accuracy is addictive. I have measured OAL and they were off by a thousand or two. I have trimmed brass all to same length but have not sorted the brass by weight. I have not turned the inside or outside of the necks. I think the inside of the necks need to be turned for improvement. For now I am going to try the wilson dies and different neck tensions and see what that does.

No cheek piece on my stock. It is just the regular HS precision LRPV stock. I was shooting off a concrete bench with mechanical caldwell front rest and rear bag.

I did replace the recoil lug and made sure it was only touching on the back of lug. The stock needed a little trimming since the recoil lug was oversized. I probably need to check and see how good my stock is fitting to the aluminum bedding block or either skim bed. That might help. What you think?

Btw, I was shooting 130 JLKs at 2875 fps using 38 grain RE15 and BR4 CCI primers.
