I have a Savage Axis 22-250 and would like to buy a thumbhole stock, but how do I know if it is a long action or short action? I saw a post that someone asked the same question about their 243 and I got the impression that the caliber is what makes the difference. Any help would be appreciated.

If it's a savage pre 2018 I believe 110/111 etc are long action, 10/11 etc are short actions

All of the Axis models are a sorta long action sized receiver and are not compatable with long/short 10/12/etc stocks. Make sure the stock is specifically built for the Axis.

Axis only has one action length. Your 22-250 would take the short action Boyd's stock. If you wanted to go long action, you would buy a Boyd's stock for long action and get a LA magazine...also look on your bolt head and you will see that it can be rotated for long action or short action pull length.
