Will a 26" Savage magnum or 26" #4 barrel profile fit in a savage sporter stock?

AKA sanding. If it’s a wood stock you should have enough material to open the barrel channel for the new barrel. The plastic stocks start off too flimsy, in my opinion.

It's actually not very difficult to widen the front of a standard wood stock by epoxying more wood on both sides and the bottom as well if desired, from the recoil lug forward. Best to make the sides flat to begin with by taking a small amount off by running thru a table saw. They turn out very nice if of coarse there is an element of talent involved. Painting best covers small sins and epoxy fill, but natural wood is very possible also.
