My wife gave me her dad's old shotgun but, I can't seem to find much out about the 12 gauge, lot's on the 16 and .410 also, what is the difference between the 430 and the 430a. I have found that they were made from the mid-30's to around the mid-50's. Is this correct?

You've got 530 in the title and 430 in the thread, which is it?

Old over under?

Sorry, I didn't catch that. It's a 430a 12 gauge Side by Side.

Nothing I can find on a Stevens with that model #. Savage offered a Model 420 and 430 that were made from 1937-1943, but they were both O/U's. Only SxS Stevens - not counting the more recent imported models - were 311, 315 and 511. Savage had a Model 550 SxS and then there were the Fox B-series SxS's.

J. Baker, I know right. I haven't been able to find anything at all on the 430a, it's an enigma to me. Just went down to double check the model number and brought my glasses this time and it is infact a model 530a, not 430a. 30" Barrels, 2-3/4" 12 gauge shells, Mod. choke on right barrel and full on left barrel. Sorry for the confusion and now that the model number is correct, does anyone have info. on this model?

Whatever I can get. Seems to be hard to find any info. on the 530a, plenty on other models but, would like to know a bit of history and years it was made.
