By spring i will have a completed a 22” sporter Bartlein on SSS sporter stock for deer. I’m looking at a Nikon Black X1000 second plane because of positive reviews for good enough glass, really nice turret adjustment, and value point.

With whatever scope I get I will buy custom dial(s) starting at 235 years probably, did the same with a Leupold low profile on a Rem 700 270 win. That puts the dial marks beyond 500 yards which is plenty.

This scpoe has two reticles, XMOA and XMRAD, neither of which I’m familiar with. Would a ballistic dial work better with one reticle over the other? Any reason to buy illuminated reticle for hunting? Any reason a 6x24 would be a penalty over a 4x16 other than being two louder on the bottom end?

i Suppose I could learn to calculate reticle hash marks, but range finders and custom turrets are easy.

Thanks,

yobuck

Easy is whatever you train your mind to do. For hunting, i personally don't see how it can get much easier than using minits with a standard dial calibrated for them and working from a 100 yd zero. As for the lighted reticle, I only have one scope having one and im not sure it even works because ive never used it.
But I guess there are some who never turn them off also. You didn't mention the cartridge you will be using, but with a 22" barrel im assuming not very large. That being the case id be using a lower power scope like a 3.5x10 or maybe a 4.5x12.

Thanks yobuck. 270 Win on T&T’d 116 action. Had been an 06 on Cabelas used rack. Never fired the 06. Want the takeoff barrel?
