Welcome to the land of the barrel nut, TJ!

Here are some words to remember with regard to Savage centerfire rifles when ordering a barrel.

Long action, short action, large shank, small shank. Barrels aren't specific with regard to action length, just shank size. Barrel twist is relative to what weight and length of bullet you intend to shoot. Some cartridges will only fit a long action, check to make sure your action will accept a 7-08 cartridge before ordering a barrel. If I'm not mistaken, the 308 was specifically designed to fit a short action.

For more information search the Savage FAQ's tab above.

For ability to buy and sell parts, post and receive private messages you'll need to upgrade your membership. There are many benefits that come with an upgrade and I'm sure you'll find it well worth the small investment.

Good luck and keep us appraised of your progress.
