7x57 24" with a 1-9 twist loads

I just got a 7x57 Shilen barrel installed on a 111 Long Range Hunter action and it looks like it will throw a 162 or 175 better than I thought. I am seeing some speeds in my reloading books and online resources for 175's around 2550 FPS and 162's around 2700.
My brother seems to think that I can get a 162 SST to around 2750 and probably even 2800 pretty safely in a modern action. The Nosler book shows their 160 pretty close to 2700 with the 22" barrel, but that is a pretty sizable amount higher than the Hornady manual for 162's. I am guessing the numbers might be for a modern action in the Nosler book and the old weaker Mauser action in the Hornady... but I am not sure.

Any real world numbers from a 24" barrel in a modern (not custom) action?

Your case capacity is about half way between a 7mm08,and a 280,so I would say that 2,800 with the 162 would probably be pushing it..Just work up to max while keeping your eyes peeled for pressure warnings,and keep in mind that some powders are temperature sensitive, so a max load now may blow your primers out later.The max load is usually not the most accurate, and is hard on your brass.The 7mm bullet flies good enough that a few fps ain't gonna be worth sweating

The original plan was to use H 4350 since I have about 13 LBS left, but my brother is trying to convince me to get some RL 16 to try. I might just get a LB of it to try. Neither is too temp sensitive.

It is pretty cold up here in northern Minnesota, but when it got to 35 the other day I quick loaded up some 162 SST's at one grain under the Hornady book max load for H4350 and chronographed them at 2650 FPS. The bullets were still room temp when I shot them.
I am really optimistic that I will find a load near 2750 or more since the Hornady book shows loads nowhere near what the Nosler manual shows... and the RL 16 might be even better!

This 7mm Mauser is just a dream to shoot. Low recoil and pretty accurate for a barrel that isn't broke in yet.
