I have an old Savage short action single shot that is currently barreled to a small shank 6.5 Creedmoor, .473 bolt face. I’m considering throwing a Shilen 6.5 PRC barrel on that action. Of course I’d need a .532 bolt face. I need a little guidance on the new bolt face. Does a short action magnum bolt face differ from a long action magnum bolt face? Also, where should i go to pick up the new bolt face?

The Short Action Magnum bolt head (B.H.) is longer, .125 longer(@ the lug) than the standard short action. This requires some machine work or parts replacement to get correct firing pin protrusion and maintain the correct spring compression/tension.

Another alternative that I like is shortening the nose on a long action magnum B.H.this is only .062 longer(again in lug length). Thus the mod is slightly less effort to achieve F.P. protrusion.

Here is some info found in the faq section.
