J Stevens shotgun

I have inherited a shotgun that was my grandfathers and I am trying to find out what year and model it may be. The markings are wore off of the barrel or was never there. It is a single shot shotgun 16 gauge. It has J Stevens Arm Company on the left side and just Stevens on the right side. It does have a short serial number under the barrel where is breaks. On the right side at the top it has a 1 with a circle around it. Other than that I don’t have much more information on it. Thanks.

Try going to GunPartsCorp and look at the Savage Model 96 parts diagram. They made a lot of these guns for Stevens and several other brand names.
