Rechamber question

I have a 2506 barrel. Do I have room to cut off some of the chamber and run a 250 savage reamer in?

without writing it all down, I say no. A 250 Ackley improved reamer, maybe.

If it's a factory barrel the answer is no. Savage starts their taper right at the end of the threads, and since you're going from a L/A cartridge to a S/A cartridge you'll have to cut at least 0.6" off the breech end to get a clean new .250 AI chamber just due to the difference in case lengths.

I've set back a 25-06 barrel & rechambered to 257 Ackley 40 deg. Amount of setback approx .300". Leftover threads (nominal) were inadequate for standard nut. Approx 2 threads were removed from front of nut (internal).
The 250 savage Ackley imp. will require even more set back. My guess would be to have a machinist or smith set it back 5/8" and pick up the threads and add at least 1/2" more thread. The A.I. reamer should then most likely clean up the old chamber.
Most smiths do not recommend rechambering a used barrel however. Heat damaged chambers & throats can damage the reamer.
Unless the barrel is very high quality a new barrel may be a better choice and maybe cheaper in the long run.
