blind magazine????

Why is it called a blind magazine on the old style actions? Centerfeed makes sense. By why "blind"? Never knew. Thanks, Tim

It is called "blind" becuase you can't tell from underneath the gun there is a magazine. As opposed to one with bottom metal.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the old Stevens had blind magazines? With the box attached to the receiver? Then the stock held the spring and follower in?
