Finally got out to a local long distance range with a pair of .223s. I was shooting my 12FV in a B&C stock with a 24" X-Caliber 1:7 Wylde chamber. Using 77gr Sierra TMKs with 23.4gr of Varget in Starline brass loaded to 2.400", 20 thou off the lands. Chrono says they are coming out at ~2870.

I am sure this is easy as pie for a lot of you but it's the first time I have shot past 100 yards and have to say I am hooked now. Shooting paper is boring now :p

Awesome, I am getting a grin thinking about my first time to 600. Your horizontal looks real good. Wind is moving it but you are flatlining.

Good job with the 223 @ 600, and yes paper punching is boring. But you probably don't really need two 223s, so consider an easy rechamber of one of them to 22x250ai.
The faster you get the heavier bullets there the easier it is.

what all did you change or up grade on your 12fv 223

B&C Varmint stock, Savage tactical bolt handle and the X-Caliber 24" 1:7 .223 Wylde barrel. I had already bought a .223 12FV that I cut the barrel down to 20". I liked it so much that I picked up another 12FV in 6.5 and sold the barrel off to replace with the tighter twist. I may pull the barrel off the 20" one and make it a .243 for fun. I also have 12FVs in 22-250 and 308. When they were $200 after rebate I went on a buying spree...

As much or more fun is shooting 4 inch clays placed on the berm. When those become boring, try the dove clays. Like you wrote, very addictive.

Celltech, you did what I did on the 12FVs. Between the rebates and Cabela's discount gift cards, I ended up with 5 of them. They all cost under $200 with my discounts. I rebarreled the first one by replacing the factory 6.5 Creedmoor barrel with a Shilen 28" Select Match. Put it in a HS Precision stock. I haven't shot it much at all, but groups were awesome at 125 yards. I can only imagine what a better shooter could have done. (To me the Creedmoor hype was verified.)

I'm jealous of the 600 yard range. looks like so much fun. Is it public or private? I don't have access to anything like that close by. There is one a county away that I think goes out to 500 yards. Never been though.

It's the Fossil Pointe range up in Decatur, TX. Totally public for whomever wants to give it a try. And it's actually an 800 yard range but I have only tried up to 600 at this point. They have berms starting at 250 yards and continuing every 50 after that. They technically don't allow .223s to shoot past 500 yards...but if you have the right hardware and some long bullets

They also have a 50/100/200 paper range where you have to qualify for the 800. They require 5 shots at MOA on the 200 before you can shoot the big one. I turned another 12FV into a .243 and will be pulling it out next time with some 107gr Sierras.

I'm about an hour away from that place, down in the Plano-area. That place is on my list to visit ASAP! Thanks for the info!

Very nice! I just got a 12FV in 22-250, and it shoots like a laser. Love that rifle.
