Hey guys. I'm a current ruger shooter. After having amazing luck with the Ruger American Predator both in 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. I bought a Ruger precision. I mainly bought it because you can change the barrel when need be. Well after 500 rounds through it nothing will get it to shoot well. Maybe I got a lemon. Thinking of trading it in for a Savage 110 Tactical in 6.5 Creedmoor. Anyone have one? Pros and Cons? Thanks. Thinking of buying two and eventually making one in to a 7mm WSM since it seems you can change the bolt head out (and barrel obviously) to make an easy conversion. Any problems converting to a short mag caliber?

If you want anything that has a magnum bolt face, you will want to start with a rifle that started with a magnum bolt face. Reason is that the lugs on the magnum bolt heads are thicker and use a different firing pin assembly and front baffle. So if you bought a standard (.473") bolt-face rifle (i.e. 308 or 30-06) you would have to change out all of those parts to convert it to a magnum - not to mention the magazine box and follower. Cheaper and easier to just buy a rifle in .300 WSM so all you have to do is change out the barrel.

Or you could get a 7mm-08 barrel for your RPR or your 308 Savage. Shoot the 168 bergers, 162 ELD-M or a suitable matchking. .600+ BC and decent velocity.

I wanted to re-barrel it to a 6.5 CM but am afraid to dump any more money into it in case the problem is with the action.
