Has anyone had any luck with 190 mks in a .308 over the 175 mks? Have a savage 10 precision carbine 20 inch barrel and with my hand loads when i do my part can shoot 8 shot groups a quarter will cover up at 100 with the 175s. I have access to 290 and 300 yard shots now but i need a better scope cuz it really strugles at that distance as it is hard to see one inch dots on my targets and will up grade soon, but their is also a cross wind that blows across the entire length of the shot and its normally 5 to 10 mph. With the scope and the wind the best ive manged so far is a 6 shot group thats two inches at 290 yards. Im playin with the velocity of my 175 load to try to combat the wind as i use a mild load and a better scope will definatly be alot of help. The 190s might do better in the wind over the 175s? being a heavier bullet and my seirra book says i can push them at 2600 fps which is faster than i have been with the load i have been using with my 175s. Ive been pushing my 175s at 2500 fps, well acording to the book i dont have a chrony. My gun has a short barrel but has a 1:10 twist. Has anybody put the 190s up against their 175mks with any luck? I like Imr 4064 with the 175s and will start with that for the 190s two.

I used the 190s when I had my 112BVSS with 26" bbl, they were very accurate (loaded to 2600 fps) but still had a horrendous drop at 1k, IIRC, in the area of 12'. Accuracy was not bad on the steel being in the 12" range.

I got your PM and totally forgot I posted to your topic. Here's the data from my old notes: I was off on the 190gr velocity, confusing it(from memory) with the 178gr A-Max's I was loading.

Norma brass - collet neck sized, CCI BR-2, IMR 4350/46 grains pushing the 190 SMK. I seated the 190s .008" off the lands and got a chrono'd velocity of 2520fps with a 100 yard group of .550". My cases showed no signs of excessive pressure in my rifle. YMMV. I'd start loading about 10% below my charge and work up for safety sake.
