I have recently found myself in possession of my grandfathers Savage 112 Series J and am looking for any information I can find about it. From what I can tell according to the serial number it was manufactured in 1977. It is chambered in 25-06 and seems to be a pretty good shooter. I am interested in turning this into a precision rifle so any input or information would be very helpful. Thanks!

The easiest way to increase the accuracy is to start "rolling your own" ammo.
You say "It's a pretty good shooter"? Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
I have a 110 V "J" and it shoots bug holes. It's my platform for many different calibers.
From 17 VHA on up to 6.8 BR with LOTS of other calibers in between.

I have one in .223 rem. Great shooter, nice old rifle.

You probably won't be able to find a replacement "drop in" stock available but you can take a newer short action stock, move the front action screw hole about 1/4" and you're good to go.
Make sure you've got daylight between the barrel and forearm. Enough to slide a dollar bill down from the action to the muzzle with no contact. Makes a BIG difference.
One piece scope mounts are just about non existent. Trying to get all the holes to match and the proper fit over the loading port is a chore.
I went as far as getting 2 NEW mounts, with the rear windage adjustment (back end fits good) cutting them in half, (front end fits good) having them welded together with the proper fit in ALL the screw holes and over the port opening. Can't tell it from a factory made mount.
I "think", (I'd have to look) my "J" is either my 6.8 BR Wildcat or 6.8 SPC. Been a while. Both are built/chambered with ZERO freebore and are bug hole shooters.
And I'll ad, all my rigs are set up with single shot followers or single shot actions. No feeding issues and no chasing brass. Brass never hits the ground.

If remembering correctly the "J" series long action spacing has always been the same. I don't think the 25-06 came in the SA. Stocks should be available (LA blind mag staggered feed).

All it takes is a measurement.

If it's a 112 V series "J", it will be on a first generation short action receiver (4.522") with a heavy varminter walnut stock. And yes, they did put 25-06 barrels on the short action single shots.

I stand corrected. I was hoping Sharpshooter would chime in.
