I've just acquireda nice Savage Super Sporter model 40, chambered in .30-06. I'm sort of in a quandary here asI've attempted to disassemble the bolt for cleaning. I've indexed the bolt intothe fired position (firing pin protruding from bolt face) and have pushed outthe pin that's located in the middle of the bolt sleeve. This is as far as Ican get, i.e., the bolt does not disassemble.

Does the bolt pin that indexes in the bolt head have to be removed? I saw noway of doing so without putting pliers on the bolt pin and I don't believe thatwould be a wise thing to do. Is the cocking piece threaded, i.e., does it twistoff?

If any of the Savage board members can share with me their bolt disassembly/assembly instructions, it wouldbe greatly appreciated. My e-mail is: eldesiertolindo@yahoo.com (eldesiertolindo@yahoo.com)

Thank you and best regards,

Never seen one in person, but based on what I'm seeing in this photo it doesn't look like there's many pieces to it and that the main assembly is a 1-piece affair. Appears disassembly is from the rear.

Thanks J.Baker, but I actually need an assist from someone who has disassembled a Savage model 40 bolt.
