22 lr ammo lot numbers

Is there any reason to try to buy 22 LR ammo by the lot number ? Such as federal auto match target grade in the 325 round black and white box.

If you find a lot number that works especially well in your gun then seek out more in that lot number. Each lot has the potential to perform differently as the powder is mixed or batched by lot as well as all other components. Any variation from lot to lot can change how it performs in any persons particular gun.

I was in a gun shop and they had Federal auto match target grade for $10.00 per box so I bought 8 boxes of the same lot number. I didn't get to shoot any yet and was wondering what is the chances it might be real good or not so good in my Savage MK II btvss. If it isn't so good I am stuck with 8 boxes of 325 each

It is good plinking fodder if you rifle doesn't like it. If we get back into an ammo crunch then it is good trade fodder.
