I just registered for the forum today. I've been fascinated with older Savage firearms for quite some time and up until a couple of weeks ago, the only thing Savage in my gun safe was a nice condition Model 1907 pistol. At a local gun shop I came across what was tagged a Model 1899 Savage lever-gun and that is something I've had on my list to own for quite some time. The price was reasonable and I bought it. I found a website called Savage1899.com and checked the serial number; according to this website, I actually have a Model 1895! I put 3 rounds of hard to find .303 Savage cartridges thru it and it's in great shape mechanically. For a 120+ year old gun the finish is appropriately worn, but not too bad. I'm seriously considering having it restored.
