I just bought a Modell 99 to replace the one I had stolen years ago . The new (old) one is in .300 Savage , has the schrabnel forend original sights , with a Weaver k4 , great wood, better bluing , most of the case hardening is still there , the serial number starts with a 388xxx(sorry i forgot the rest ) and it doesn't have the circled letter I keep hearing about on the lever it has a "3" . I would love to know some history and year made if anybody could help . The only difference I can see between this one and the one I had stolen was the stolen one had a jeweled bolt and a gold trigger .
