My 30-30 M99 really likes this powder and I like not having to break out the copper solvent. 36 gr under a 150 Sierra gives 2350 fps with excellent consistency and great accuracy. 3 rounders at 50, she's open sighted, are in the 1/2 to 3/4 inch range, and all 10 went into 1 7/16 inch.
This barrel coppers up, but after 20 rounds of CFE223 there's barely a trace of visable copper.As charges increased, velocity consistency and accuracy improved. Will try a max load next. Should get me where I want to be ( factory advertised, 2390). This powder seems to give lower than normal chamber pressures for the velocity it gives. That is also excellent. Good velocity, great accuracy AND lower pressures? Thanks Hodgdon!!!

Yeah, the CFE223 is pretty good stuff.
I run it in my 308 and my 30-06 with 200 gr ELDX.
I get 2600 fps with the 308, and 2750 with the 30-06.
The 30-06 is handicapped with a 22" barrel.

CFE223, is a very good powder indeed, shoots great out of 2 of my 308's. In my 308 model 12FV with 150gr Accubonds it shoots 1/2" 5 shot groups @100yds, 3050fps just under max load. In my 16"bbl Ruger compact 308 it shoots 130gr hornady's 3 shots into a nickle at 100 yards @ 2900fps, max load. it is a bit of a temp sensitive powder but that is to be expected with ball powders. All in all i think its a real good powder, especially in my 16" bbl gun where i like to keep the velocity up due to short barrel. Now it's time to test out CFE223 in my 30/06 :cool:

Well... Maybe after I get my deer and bear loads finalized, I'll grab a pound of Trail Boss and launch some sinkers down range. Thought about cast, in many rifles, for quite awhile. Maybe this one will be the one I try them. I want to keep that very nice very accurate barrel in very good shape.
I'm having a seriously good time with this rifle. Glad that whoever had it before me, chose not to wear her out or bugger/ Bubba her up.
The explanation I got as to why the price was so low for a 99 in 95% condition, was that there is little collector interest in the 99 chambered to .30-30. Hard to believe, but ok. I've seen only 2 in 30 30, including this one. The other was a toasted octagonal barrelled one. They couldn't have been common. Oh well, great for me!
