What's your recommendations: Action, barrel, trigger, etc.? Barrel length, twist, etc.?

added, 01/30/11

I put a 30" 1/10 twist Mcgowan Barrel on my 338!

Has anyone tried Nossler Accu Bond 250gr bullets?

If you have, let me know your COAL and charge!

Thanks, Dennis

If I was building a 338 Edge, I would build it exactly like this one ;D

LOL, You have a fine rifle. By the way, how much do you want for it? ;D

Definetly looks like a great build, I will be eyeing this one!

Nice stick Moosetracker! Looks like mine is the evil twin to yours. I am in need of a nice recoil pad for mine. What size pad did you buy for yours? Was there much fitting involved? How does it shoot?

I bought the large HiViz pad. Some sanding on the belt sander and then finish sanding on the stock with a B&D Mouse. Not that big a job. I prefer the HiViz to the Limbsaver for custom installation as the latter is too soft and virtually impossible to sand to a nice appearance.

As for accuracy, I just completed an OCW test and found a node at 100.8 Grs H1000 with Nosler Accubond 250grs. (.75" @ 200 yds.) I still have to play around with the seating depth to tweak the load.

sweet rifle indeed. Definitely gonna build myself a .338 edge. Seems to be the most reasonable rounds to put together, checked on .338 lapua brass its spendy unless I was looking in wrong place. $233 for 100 cases. OUCH! 300rum cases cheaper. well this type of fun, it is worth a little coin now and then

Nice gun Moostracker !!

Just picked up a used model 12 F/TR in .308 yesterday and I love it (my first savage !) I'm not missing the Remmy Sendero I sold one bit so far !!

So to use the 338 Edge barrel you have to change the bolt head when you switch barrels right ?

Hi Dennis- Go for it.
Jim @ centershotrifles.com just took a burnt out 7 RUM barrel off an action and replaced it with an Edge barrel. Give him a shout and chat a piece. He has all the information you need.

338 Edge is all American in every aspect from inception to components.

Contrary to another post a 7 WSM does not even come close if you use other components. 238gr-.9 BC bullets and above actual 1.?? and above CNC turned Brass composite bullets traveling along at 3200fps to 3600fps pretty much have no peers other than maybe a 50BMG.
Barrels used, range from 28" to 36"and to date it is being shot in a repeating Savage. The BC's were not calculated on a program but are actual from range work out to 3000yards.

For reference the 338 Excaliber from A-Square shoots at 250 grain bullet from a 26" barrel at 3200fps!
Personally I am getting better than 2700fps with 300gr Sierra's from a 19" handgun barrel.

The machinist took delivery yesterday of another CNC Lathe to start mass producing those bullets. I will have my 300 RUM barrel back from Nitriding mid next week so I can start some long range comparisons myself. I also ordered another 338 barrel (6 now)to put in a Savage rifle with modified magazine last night.

My 225gr Accubond fits nicely in a magazine if I choose to have the gun as a repeater.

Moosetracker, what's your speed with the above load? Getting ready to load for my 338, I have some 250 Accu-bonds, 100.8 grans of H1000 seems like a lot of powder!

What primers are you using?

I'm getting 3135fps out of the 30" Brux. I use CCI 250 primers and the internal volume of a fired case (average of 65 cases measured) is 116.6grs of H2O.

I built mine in my signature on a 7mag stevens used a SSS trigger and recoil lug and shilen 30'' 1-10 twist a varmit contour the action is going out to SSS for a T&T when it gets back i will recheck the headspace and spent the barrel out for a buzzle brake i wanted a muscle brake form centershot rife's but might give sin mans brake a try problably a have much faster turn around done waited forever for the barrel

Which actions are you guys using for this build? I was thinking about an edge build also, well, actually I'd like the 338 Norma Mag, but can't find a bolt face Lapua Mag size so I guess I'm stuck with the Edge... ;D :D

I heard from Geargrinder that he was able to get a .338 Lapua Savage bolt head. They are making the 110 BA now
in 338 Lapua. Might be able to find out how through him.
